Adult Swim's Leading Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Major Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

Last October, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the network unveiled a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, evoking a animated take of a contemplative talk show. At a time often defined by bleakness, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

On December 18th, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The show follows three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Executive Acclaim

The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and championed its peculiarly charming sensibility.

"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about observing this endearing family go about their daily lives.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to help comedy break out of its current layer of irony. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

The Path Forward

Now, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well catalyze that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to enjoy the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
