Canada's Blue Jays Earn World Series Matchup Against Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer previously helped the Houston Astros winning the championship in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their first World Series after 1993 by beating the Mariners in the seventh game seven of the American League Championship Series.

Trailing 3-1, outfielder George Springer smashed a three-run blast in the seventh frame, guiding the only Canadian franchise in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 victory in the series. Awaiting them are the defending champions, the team that is the defending champions, in the forthcoming World Series.

"It's incredible for this squad, our city, Canada," commented Springer, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 World Series. "What an amazing experience."

The veteran has now slugged 23 total playoff homers, placing him third on the list after Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).

"I can't think of another player anywhere that I'd prefer in that situation besides him with his post-season brilliance," noted Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, who had led the early in the series, continue to be the one club that has never reached in a championship series.

Wilson said "there's no question that it's painful" following his side's defeat at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their efforts in the campaign.

"They're an exceptional squad. Sadly that we finished on the losing end of this game," he remarked.

Toronto won the championship on both previous visits in the early 90s, and will welcome the Los Angeles in the first game on this Friday.
