Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Marshawn Kneeland has passed away aged 24.

Kneeland was drafted by the Cowboys in the second round in 2024 and played 18 times for the team, with four starting appearances.

He scored his first touchdown in Tuesday's defeat to the Arizona Cardinals when he recovered a blocked punt.

"He was a cherished team member and member of our organisation," the Dallas Cowboys stated.

"We send our condolences regarding Marshawn are with his girlfriend Catalina and his family."

Kneeland was picked by the Cowboys with the 56th selection of the 2024 draft after his college career for Western Michigan University.

His representative, Jonathan Perzley, said his "heart aches" for the passing of a player who "poured his heart" into every moment.

"I watched him fight his way from a aspiring young man at Western Michigan with a dream to being a esteemed pro for the Dallas Cowboys," Perzley said.

The NFL stated it is "deeply saddened" by the tragic event.
