Militiamen smirk as they travel on the bed of a pick-up truck, racing by a series of multiple dead bodies and heading facing the sinking Sudan's sun.

"Observe this extensive work. Observe this instance of mass destruction," a combatant exclaims.

He smiles as he points the camera on his own face and his associate combatants, their paramilitary badges clearly shown: "These people will all be killed in this manner."

The combatants are celebrating a massacre that aid workers believe killed over thousands of individuals in the Sudan's city of al-Fashir last month.

A Community Severed from the Outside

Having held the community under encirclement for nearly two years, from the summer the paramilitary force moved to strengthen its control and restrict the leftover inhabitants.

Orbital photography reveal that forces began to construct a immense earth barrier - a elevated sand barrier - around the perimeter of el-Fasher, blocking roads and halting aid.
