R360 Athletes Face 10-Season Suspension from National Rugby League

Roger Tuivasa-Sheck earned 20 test matches for New Zealand before transferring allegiance to Samoa.

The NRL's authority has declared that participants who join the “rebel” R360 league will be prohibited for a decade.

The new league, scheduled to begin in late 2026, is hoping to draw athletes from both codes with lucrative deals and a slimmed-down playing schedule.

Top NRL players have reportedly received offers by R360, which will involve multiple men's teams and four women's teams located in major cities globally.

The Samoan Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, who plays for his NRL club in the league, has said he has had negotiations involving the breakaway league.

Papenhuyzen, Lomax, Haas and Jye Gray are also said to be thinking about signing the rebel league.

Several leading union teams, such as Australia, recently declared a prohibition on athletes signing with R360 playing global fixtures.

“We have consulted our clubs and we've acted decisively,” stated ARLC chairman V'Landys.

“Regrettably, there will persistently exist organizations that seek to pirate our game for economic benefit.

“They don't invest in talent pipelines or the advancement of talent. They merely capitalize on the dedication of other organizations, jeopardizing careers of economic hardship while benefiting financially.

“Essentially, they are, imitating the sport.”

R360 is launched by ex-England star Tindall and funded by independent financiers.

After the prospective rugby union sanctions were revealed recently, it stated: “We want to work collaboratively as integrated into the worldwide fixture list.

“The event is designed with customized calendars for men's and women's teams and the organization will permit participants for global fixtures, as specified in their deals.”

The new league will apply for endorsement for its proposals from the international authority, union's governing body, at its official gathering next year.
