He expressed his aim to dedicate his efforts toward supporting the youth and addressing what he described as a pervasive negative narrative currently found in the country. Pursuing Different Paths Away from The Sport Speaking on air, he was questioned on speculation linking him with vacant management roles in the Premier League and elsewhere. “Leading my country gave my work in football a deeper meaning and purpose,” he answered. “That’s going to be very hard to replicate. Having had 37 years in football I’m enjoying finding other areas where I think I might be able to make a difference.” Dedication to Mentorship Leading up to the launch of his forthcoming publication, his new work on leadership, Southgate shared that he is “very passionate” about setting examples for teenagers, drawing on insights from his tenure as England’s men’s football manager between 2016 and 2024, as well as his role as a father. He maintains that his journey managing the squad, during which the team evolved from being strongly criticized to greatly admired, holds broader applications. “Initially, the relationship with supporters was severely strained,” he noted. “The public viewed the players as egotistical, yet we successfully reversed that image. We’ve got incredible talent but we need to them to find the right role models, the right friendship groups because those decisions have such a big impact on the rest of their lives.” Unity Over Conflict Southgate stressed that “what brings the nation together outweighs what pulls it apart” but that the cultural focus often highlights conflict. “One can see why many feel disillusioned,” he stated. “Many areas face economic hardship, which naturally inspires demands for improvement. However, I’ve experienced the power of national unity. In the Covid crisis, acts of community support showed the country at its finest, proving our resilience when challenged.” The manager’s forthcoming book, the book Dear England, is expected to provide further insights on leadership and public spirit drawn from his distinguished career.
