The Game UN:Me: An Psychological Thriller Merging Silent Hill and Among Us Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled a number of intriguing future games, but one in particular has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience seems to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"It's a unique game where a girl containing multiple human souls within her needs to flee from a labyrinth of the mind," explains producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Fractured Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of teenage years. Within her exist four separate souls, all possessing unique fears and motivations. These entities can take over spontaneously, unleashing their innermost terrors upon her without warning.

Judging by revealed gameplay, much of the narrative takes place within a creepy medical facility, though other scenes show the main character exploring a abandoned church.

An Environment of Individual Dread

"What are you afraid of? What causes you uneasy?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Things that seem trivial to others can trigger something primal within us. This game delves into that idea — anxieties that are specific to each person."

The central mechanic revolves around managing the persona that emerges at any given moment. However, these identities will switch involuntarily as you play. During exploration, every persona's fears become exaggerated and assault the protagonist in succession. When the soul changes, so does the particular terror the player encounters.

Unsettling Visuals and a Fatal Decision

Initially, UN:Me displays striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is populated by nurses all sporting the identical visage, with disturbingly broad grins. Patients in the lobby have large flowers growing from their heads are. Floral motifs are a recurring theme, contrasting natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me presents a unique mechanic. Players must determine which of the four souls inhabiting the heroine is the "real" one. "Each of the personas asserts that the body belongs to them," explains a creator. "During the game, you must determine who is authentic."

After a player have deduced a soul is an impostor, they must eliminate it. However, because each soul can deceive or hide the reality, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the true [soul] by your own actions," a voice states. "The final entity standing could be a fake. In any case, your decisions are irreversible."

UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed release date, but it is available to wishlist on digital storefronts.
