The original creators of the famous ice cream brand Ben & Jerry's has announced how parent company the multinational conglomerate stopped the launch for an innovative pro-Palestinian frozen dessert product.

The entrepreneur, that established the business alongside his partner, revealed how he will personally create the controversial product within an individual collection highlighting issues Ben & Jerry's was prevented from speaking out about.

Ongoing Dispute Involving Founders and Parent Company

This latest announcement escalates the ongoing disagreement between the internationally recognized dessert company and its corporate parent, the UK-based consumer goods corporation that acquired the ice cream brand for over two decades.

Both founders have claimed how the parent company and their ice cream division the Magnum brand unlawfully blocked Ben & Jerry's against "honouring its social mission".

The Fruit Sorbet as an Emblem of Solidarity

Mr. Cohen stated through social media how he is creating a new watermelon-flavored sorbet, requesting consumer ideas for the product's name and additional components.

“I'm accomplishing what they were prevented from doing,” Mr. Cohen stated in his kitchen. “I'm making a watermelon-based ice cream that calls for lasting ceasefire in Palestine while demanding addressing the harm that occurred in the region.”

This particular fruit has become an emblem for support for the Palestinian people because of its colors, that closely resemble those of the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Previous Activism plus Recent Changes

In 2021, Ben & Jerry's refused to sell their merchandise in territories occupied by Israel, leading to Unilever transferring the Israeli operation over to a local licensee, thus allowing ongoing distribution within the occupied West Bank.

The new dessert series is being developed under Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the activist dessert company which originally created several years back for endorsing ex- US presidential candidate Senator Sanders with the flavor "Bernie's Back".

Management Changes and Upcoming Plans

Mr. Cohen revealed how he will create other ice cream flavors that address issues that Ben & Jerry's was silenced from speaking about openly by Unilever.

The announcement follows partner Jerry Greenfield resigned his position at the company recently, following many years of involvement, mentioning concerns regarding how the company's autonomy was undermined after corporate moves to curb their advocacy work.

At that time, Ben Cohen remarked how "Jerry has strong compassion and this conflict with Unilever was breaking it."

"My heart leads me to keep working inside the company to fight for corporate autonomy so that the company can fulfill its ethical purpose, the principles that it was founded on and has maintained for over 40 years," he told journalists.
