The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Selected the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Track

This latest animated series, the most recent animated series from Critical Role, revealed a new introductory sequence. It features our favorite group of outcasts, outcasts, and criminals fighting hard and making their mark, while teasing at several heart-wrenching backstories for key figures such as the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, Fjord.

Overall, the opening looks amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was lost in the song choice.

This sequence employs "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar composition composed by artist the talented musician. This piece originating from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second one put out by the production company's music division their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic choice, and I suspect that fans of the second campaign will love its inclusion.

But for me, The Mighty Nein's intro doesn't quite capture the excitement and excitement that accompanied the show's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", written by musician Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic in my view when it was first revealed in that year, and it only got better when co-founder the performer added lyrics to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.

Featuring vocals from one actress, another performer, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the song was catchy and fun. At the time, I hadn't even watched the second campaign at that point, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my phone. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you start an episode of fantasy hijinks.

The Mighty Nein's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the same chords for me. It's a grand composition, but from what I know of this party, I feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.

Naturally, the creators has stated that the animated show will have some changes and differences from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its intro appears as one of them.

The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on Prime Video from Nov. 19. If you can't wait until then, or want a head start to get to know the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are accessible on Spotify and YouTube.
